Party With Sluts

Winter seemingly lasted only a couple weeks around here this year, an odd departure from last year's season of doom and gloom and record snowfall. I'll take it.

Critter Gitter in pumpkin
I'll take anything I can get, in fact. I am a whore. A fly fishing whore to be exact. I love spending countless hours down at the river brothel, diddling away my time and getting my flies wet. I like to make sure I have enough lead in the pencil to get my flies down and dirty. I like riding them deep. That's where all the fun is.

pumpkin dub
Hot Craw dub
I spent some time the previous weekend concocting up a wicked brew of dubbing batches, Hot Craw and Pumpkin. Similar to my burnt orange dubbing variety, I used a base of squirrel, hare and rabbit. I added some Finn raccoon to the base fibers as well. Along with a medley of antron, floss/rayon, and other polyamide fiber goodies, I added a few extra trade secret ingredients. I also mixed up some of the highlight colors to lend to two complements that I hadn't previously utilized, hot orange to the Hot Craw dub, and highlander green and chartreuse to the pumpkin dub. As per the usual, the true essence of a spectral blend of translucent fiber based dubbing is difficult to capture on film. You'll have to trust my judgement and my word for it when I say that it is awesome.

I can tell you that black crappies know how to party. This playah loved him some Critter Gitter. I hope the carp come to party too. Looks like I'll need to make a booty call and pay a visit to their crib.

Attack of the dubz

Walnut ingredients
More of the same, except now in the tasty new flavors Walnut, Char-truce, Red Tide, Highlander, Donkey Kong, and Slim Shady. Ingredient list includes various fibers such as rayon, polypropylene, wool, acrylic fibers, polyamide fibers, antron, trilobal nylon, rabbit, hare's mask, finn raccoon, and Huacaya alpaca. Close up photos taken under natural lighting conditions.

All I need is a killer purple blend and classic white and I'll have just about every color of the rainbow covered. If anyone has a color suggestion, I'm all ears. Leave your request in the comments.

krystal meth dubz

krystal meth dub
More fun with dubbing. I chopped up a bunch of my recent scores: embroidery floss, lip cord, and Wool-Ease yarn, along with some antron and trilobal nylon and blended away. I added some rabbit and hare (not shown) for some binder and wrapper and the blend was banging. Plenty of flash here. Like a hit of ice.

I hope them caprs don't end up with a case of Meth Mouth.

chunky yarn

wool-ease chunky
Wool-Ease Chunky Yarn in Willow and Walnut. Chunky Yarn is a 80% Acrylic, 20% Wool blend, at 5.00 oz. per 153 yd skein. The Willow is a subtle blend of sea foam green, light olive, white, and purple fibers, a perfect base blend for an insect or caddis green dub. The Walnut is a bit more complex, with a crimson/red, olive, and navy composition. There aren't even any brown fibers in the yarn; your eyes are playing tricks on you vis-à-vis Gestalt Psychology. This just proves the point that using the color wheel to compose a spectral dubbing blend isn't a bunch of mumbo jumbo. Like much of nature, rarely is an organism ever composed truly of one single color, but rather a composition of complimentary colors forming a perceived shade.

More yarnly goodness for the do-it-yourself dubber.

Talk Dirty To Me

Peacock dubbing blends
Take some peacock dub and add a dose of some purple haze. The only thing missing from most commercial peacock dubbing blends is a little iridescence. Some brands will throw in a little Angelina, which is good and all for a coarser blend. But if you're looking for a smooth blend with a subdued hint of iridescence, purple antron is the way to go.

Peacock Poison
I used a blend of nine different shades of green, yellow, blue, and purple antron. This spectral dubbing blend more closely resembles the true vibrance of real peacock, than other blend I've seen. The result is a sexy concoction of fibers, a lethal dose Peacock Poison.

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming....

It's been awhile since we've featured some fly tying content so here's a little somethin' somethin' to get you started. Starting off with some hare and squirrel dub in the flavor of DSP grey. A little bump was added to the UV blend to make it sparkletastic.

Orange you glad I didn't say banana?

Seriously though, this is some more smooth rollin' dub of the orange variety. Another rendition of the KB "Kinds Buds" blend, just a bit more orangetastic. And for the chem-free folks, some Bro is what the doctor ordered, Orange Julius style.

Always a winner in my circle, Yerba Buena is not the least bit harsh, even if it may resemble some mexi-brick schwag. Smooth.

A Better Blend

I've been busy at the blender playing with the new yarns and fibers I acquired. Mohair, mystery fiber, STS, rabbit, squirrel, floss, the list goes on. All are spectral blends. All enhance your awesomeness.

KB
The highlights in this blend reminded me of those foggy days of campus life and the journeys to fantasyland we used to take. KB for kind buds. Reds, purples, oranges, yellows, if you've seen the primo stuff you'll understand. You've been thunderfucked!

Moxie
A mohair and seal substitute blend. This dub has got the stuff.

Wet Seal
An improved version of Wet Seal called Sealy Dan.

Cognac Heather
UV Cognac Heather
The Paton's Classic Wool in Cognac Heather is the bomb. An easy yarn to work with and great spectral highlights. UV is also an option.

Supersonic Scud
Supersonic. This blend will rock the scud underworld.

Oh yeah, did I mention that it tie likes like a charm and looks the shiznit?! Yeeeaaah boooy!
