F3T 2014 - Fly Fishing Film Tour Minneapolis

F3T 2014 - Fly Fishing Film Tour Minneapolis
Once again, the Fly Fishing Film Tour (F3T) is making it's way through Minnesota this winter. Of special note, this year the film tour decided to add another night in Minneapolis! What does that mean? It means that all those folks who missed out on getting in on the sold out action the past few years should have a better shot of catching the Film Tour at least one of the nights this year. Of course, I know there will be folks that will be attending the show on both nights just for the social scene. I'll be there. Here're the details:

Adios Tweeps

After following Michael Gracie's lead (again), I too have resigned from the Tweet life. No, it wasn't because of something you tweeted that pissed me off. Long story short, I am trying to reduce my e-clutter.

I have met many good friends on Twitter so for those of you who I have abandoned, please feel free to add me as a friend on Facebook, and while you're at it, if you haven't done so already, join the roughfisher.com fan page too.

Browntown

Hard to believe it's September already. The weeks have flown by, countless days wasted working instead of being spent out on the river. Morning lows are finally threatening to dip into the thirties. Crimson hues are beginning to encompass the fringes of those saccharin laden maples, contrasting against the golden yellow school buses studiously making their way through the neighborhood route. While fall marks the return to school for most children, September also means that the International Fly Tackle Dealer (IFTD) Show is just around the corner.

Hurricane High Gravity
This year the roughfisher is making the voyage west to Denver to make the retailer show. That means a taco truck full of sick carnitas burritos, afternoons on the Dirty South Platte, and evenings chugging down some High Gravity a mile high. Thanks to MG the roughfisher has a couch to crash on and a throne to leave his mark behind. Sure, we will hit the show, make a few bizness transactions, and crash the annual after show parties like the Drake Flyfishing Video Awards. We'll be privy to sneak peaks at new products for 2011, maybe even post a few gear pics or reviews; I don't know, I don't know if we'll have enough time. I only wonder if Anheuser-Busch will be there so I can get sponsored by High Gravity...

We will be on the prowl. Our posse runs deep; flanked with the Primal Fly crew Denver is about to get the taste slapped out of its mouth. Time to go browntown and wreck some shit.

Flugtag 2010 -- Twin Cities

Red Bull Flugtag Twin Cities.

Flugtag
Over 90,000 strong filled the waterways and packed the banks of the Mississippi to watch a bunch of homemade flying machines make their way off a 30-foot high ramp. Spectators bore witness to a world record flight as team Major Trouble and the Dirty Dixies soared 207 feet to victory. the roughfisher was there to capture the world record flight on photograph.

Major Trouble and the Dirty Dixies
Hilarity ensues as 36 teams liftoff from the giant ramp. Few survive the fall. Here are a few highlights:

If ever there was a craft for us fly fisherman it would be the Team S.W.A.T, a giant mosquito.

Team S.W.A.T
Hometown favorite Zorbaz entered their own craft in the event, Zorbaz Flying Food Zquadron, taking home the People’s Choice Award with the most text votes.

Zorbaz Flying Food Zquadron
This was some of the funniest shit I've seen since watching brother Ben put the moves on some unsuspecting ladies and failing miserably. The poor kid just ain't got no game.

Flugtag!

llama revisited

Custom llama dubbing blends. Combined different colored llama fur with hare and varying proportions of gold, black, and aurora Angelina fibers.

Shade of Gray
Mixing llama fibers can be a bit tricky; their guard hairs are extremely coarse and durable. After selecting a bunch of fibers, I bunched them up and trimmed the bunch into one inch lengths. I was then able to add these smaller clumps in with the Angelina fibers in small batches and got them to blend well. Anything longer than one inch cuts, and the fibers would ball up and jam along the blade on the grinder/food mill.

Mr. Brownstone
The blended fibers dub well, though I would recommend using them on flies size 10 and larger. Due to the coarseness and density of the fibers, broad robust bodies are possible with this blend.

Back in Black
Stay posted for some llama dubbed patterns later this week.

the battle scars

Since there are some sadists out there who like to see the roughfisher hurt, here's the fulfillment to your request.

busted knee
I also tossed in a few photos of the resulting carnage from the war party's victory dance later that evening.
